Description
nothing much, just playing around with the "Sumi-e" and "Watercolor" tools in Painter 8. That and I love Okami to bits, even if I cannot recreate the traditional japanese sumi-e style worth squat. Enjoy!

i'm getting the distinct feeling that this is one of those games i need to play...
anyhoo, whatever bryush you used certainly did the trick to recreate that calligraphy look, what witht he way it trails off into flid spikes and the manner in which the lines undulate in thickness, giving them a certzain fluidity. this is especially the case in reguards to the red flaring from it's back. sure, detail is comprimized and the underside of the fox is a little confusing and possibly over busy, but the simplicity you're forces into employing really dose have a certain charm.
texture seems to be a big part of this. while there's the smooth line work, the dappled backgroung counters this quite nicly.
