Swift as a Deer by Dezfezable Swift as a Deer by Dezfezable
Adobe Illustrator assignment. Had to draw a scene based on a series of short stories we read and use ourselves as a model.

I may or may not have figured out how to do black-block style shading. Figures I can do it in zany vector art. \(_o)/

it does look great! And this is you? I'm wondering what story you read to base this scene on~ Hehe.
But yeah, I saw this on Tumblr and was hoping for a bigger version! XD;;

Now, if I could be constructive about this; I'd suggest using more solid blacks!
The black-block style is one of my favorites to work with, but it's more about using solid black areas rather than bits and pieces of it, as you've captured here.
Even though it's very effective in how you did it, you could push the envelope even more with the light source!
[in some areas it's confusing as to where the light source is coming from, especially in areas like her face, hands, and deer-stomach.]

I could always red-line it for you, if you'd like! Chat me up in steam. ^w^;;

yup, it's me. hahaah! I didn't give my deer-self my glasses cuz it looked WAY too busy.

As for the black-blocks, any advice ya have would be super helpful! I still am not sure what exactly i am doing with it, and as dumb as it sounds, I was treating this as a traditional block-print while drawing everything out, since you have to kind of think in shapes when using illustrator. I was also afraid of "over doing" it and having the thing look too busy/confusing. So again, advice on how to push the envelope while still achieving a good balance is definitely appreciated~! ♥
